The Livingston Manor-Roscoe Central School Board of Education met Wednesday, March 5, at Livingston Manor Central School to continue the process of establishing the new district.

After approving the budget calendar, the board approved the establishment and registration with the New York State Education Department of the school building in Roscoe as the elementary school, holding grades pre-kindergarten through sixth grades, and the Livingston Manor building as the middle and high school for seventh through 12th grades.

The Public School Registration (New School) is required by NYSED to open a new school. It must be done to establish how both buildings under LM-R will be used, so a request must be sent to NYSED for each school building. Once the new schools are established, a PSR (Closing a School) must be done for each current school.

Superintendent John Evans also asked the board if voting locations should be established at both buildings and suggested the graduation date for the new district be set for 10 a.m. the Saturday following the end of the academic year. No action was taken on either item at this meeting.

The District Name/School Mascot/Colors Committee  will meet at 6:30 p.m. today, Thursday, March 6, in the LM auditorium. The ThoughtExchange gathering feedback on the issue will close at noon today, and a student-only ThoughtExchange was administered to students in sixth through 12th grade during the school day. Members of the public, including families and students of Livingston Manor and Roscoe schools, are encouraged to attend the meeting to share their ideas and feedback on the name, mascot and colors for the new district.

The committee is expected to report its findings and recommendations to the next meeting of the LM-R Board of Education, scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 18, in the Roscoe cafeteria.
